I was asked to read an ARC of this book prior to its release. While Jodi Vaughn is a paranormal romance writer, she proves with Saddle Up she can write any sub-genre of romance with ease. Swoon-worthy cowboy, Derrek Diaz, wants to make his ranch a success, but has no desire to have a successful romance after being burned by the town rich girl. Nurse Emily Smith leaves the big city of Dallas for the anonymity of the small town known as Somewhere, after an emotionally abusive ex-boyfriend destroys her heart and her credit. Broken ribs after a drunken fall off his horse brings Derrek into the Emergency Room during Emily's shift. She only wants to heal his ribs and he only wants to help a damsel in financial distress. Soon their attraction is too much for either to resist and both nurse and cowboy are nursing one another's hearts with the healing power of love. Jodi Vaughn's love stories make this new author a must read for everyone fan of to-die for heroes and the women who win their hearts.

Okay enough read

Was a typical romance story, two burned by romance persons finding each other. It was a simple read. Not a lot with the relationship building or character building really. It was just there. Then it was just done.
What I had issue with in this story - If you're going to have a story that has basis in reality, then have scenarios that makes sense.
Why would a hospital who takes care of their employees continue to allow rental of an apartment complex from a man who is as despicable as this landlord was? Don't see it happening.
Nor can he kicked her out before her lease is up. He does not have the legal ability to do so.
The bank calling and disclosing Emily's business to her boyfriend is a breach of confidentiality. No bank in Dallas is going to disclose that kind of information over the phone to anyone but Emily or her husband, not a boyfriend.
It also is not reality that the bank person would say that there could be no payment arrangements. That's just bull crap. The bank would have no choice but to not only except the money that she did save up, but to also accept payment in the form of arrangements. They could take it to court, likely have to go through mediation first, and they would lose the argument against accepting payments.
This same bank person, who disclosed Emily's private information over the phone, then says she can't tell Emily who paid off her loan because it is private? Seriously?

Emily Smith was forced to start a new life after the man she loved betrayed her. Somewhere, TX is the place she chose to begin again. Being a nurse she meets Derrek Diaz when he comes in after falling off his horse. Due to her past problems she is in desperate need of a place to live. Overhearing her difficulty Derrek offers his place as a way for her to help nurse his ribs. When their feelings for each other goes beyond nurse and patient Derrek steps in to help Emily out of the problem from her past hoping that she'll want a future with him.
